Im vergangenen Jahr gab es im Viertelfinale eine Überraschung. Mirra Andreeva gelang es, eine der Hauptfavoritinnen auf den Titel, Aryna Sabalenka, aus dem Rennen zu werfen. Die damals 17-jährige Russin verlor den ersten Satz, konnte aber die folgenden zwei Sätze mit 6:4 gewinnen.
