Die French Open im Pariser "Stade Roland Garros" fanden erstmals im Jahre 1891 statt. Es ist das einzige der vier großen Grand-Slam-Turniere, das auf Sand augetragen wird. Das Hauptfeld umfasst 128 Spieler, sowohl bei den Frauen, als auch bei den Männern. Für den Turniersieg gibt es 2000 Weltranglistenpunkte. Insgesamt wird ein Preisgeld von mehr als 40 Millionen Euro ausgeschüttet.
