Sig Hansen ist seit mehr als 20 Jahren Krabbenfischerkapitän. Er kennt die Beringsee wie seine Westentasche. Unter seiner Ägide hat es auf der "Northwestern" noch nie einen schweren Unfall gegeben. Dieses Privileg können nur wenige Skipper für sich in Anspruch nehmen. Auf diese Leistung ist der Amerikaner daher besonders stolz. Doch ab sofort wird ein anderer das Kommando auf dem Fangschiff übernehmen. Sig übergibt das Ruder in der Wintersaison an seinen Bruder. Auf Edgar Hansens Schultern lastet nun große Verantwortung.
